McDonald’s To Flip 2,500 Jobs This Year

31 Jan 2012

McDonald’s To Flip 2,500 Jobs This Year McDonald’s has announced that it will create up to 2,500 full and part time jobs in the UK during 2012. The famous burger company plans to open 15 new outlets this year and will also be adding more staff to work in the evenings at its restaurants.

The vast majority of the new vacancies will be based at McDonald’s restaurants in England, with just over 350 jobs to be created in Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland.

It is thought that around 800 of the new McDonald’s jobs will go to people who have never worked before – and over half of the new jobs available will be filled by students or other young people under the age of 25.

Chief executive of McDonald’s in the United Kingdom, Jill McDonald, said: “Today’s job market is particularly tough for young people, so it remains vital that these jobs continue to offer great training programmes that teach the valued, transferable skills that will give them a solid footing on the career ladder and help them to progress their careers with us or other employers.”

In the last three years, McDonald’s has created over 13,000 jobs and, after recruitment has finished for the 2,500 new full and part time positions, the restaurant chain will employ around 90,000 workers in the United Kingdom.

Speaking after visiting a McDonald’s training facility last week, Nick Clegg, Deputy Prime praised the burger company and the way it developed its staff from part time jobs and entry level positions into higher level jobs within the firm.

“McDonald’s has an excellent reputation for developing its staff with training and apprenticeship programme. It’s a telling fact that half of McDonald’s current board have progressed from the shop floor to the top floor, having started their careers serving customers in the restaurant,” said Mr Clegg.
