Shop & Office Development Could Create 500 Merseyside Jobs

28 Dec 2011

Shop & Office Development Could Create 500 Merseyside Jobs A proposal for a new shopping and office development in Birkenhead has been put forward by the National Grid Property Holdings and the Homes and Communities Agency. If accepted by the council’s planning committee, it is said that the scheme could create 500 new full or part time Merseyside jobs.

Earmarked for an area of unused land at the back of the Birkenhead Central train station, the proposal also includes plans for restaurants, a crèche and a car showroom.

Phil Davies, councillor Birkenhead and Tranmere, is backing the shop and office proposal because he says it would be great for Birkenhead.

“We have been trying to develop that area between Birkenhead Central station and through to the A41, trying to come up with a good plan for a regeneration scheme for a number of years now. If we can make that happen at long last, it would be fantastic in terms of really lifting that whole part of Birkenhead, which is slightly on the periphery of the town centre,” said Mr Davies.

The proposal will be considered by council’s planning committee at the first meeting in 2012.
