30 Nov 2011

Sainsbury’s To Create 800 New Full & Part Time Scotland Jobs Sainsbury’s is all set to expand north of the border and will create 800 new full and part time jobs in Scotland over the next year and a half.

The massive supermarket chain has just opened its 59th outlet in Scotland, bringing its total number of stores in the United Kingdom to 1,000. That one store in Irvine, North Ayrshire created almost 250 new jobs in one go.

Further new full and part time positions will be advertised in Scotland as Sainsbury’s opens new stores in Pitlochry and Montrose and extends an existing outlet in East Kilbride. The grocery retailer also has plans to increase its presence in Scotland with a number of the mini Local version of its stores. Those too will create new full and part time Scotland jobs.

Sainsbury’s group commercial director, Mike Coupe, said the 800 new Scotland jobs that his supermarket chain would deliver would make a real impact in local communities across the country.

“Since opening the first Sainsbury’s in Scotland in 1984 we have gone from strength to strength and we now have over 8,000 colleagues working in nearly 60 stores. The opening today at Irvine and the 800 jobs we will create is just part of our wider commitment to Scotland,” said Mr Coupe.
