Google bans essay writing ads

Google bans essay writing ads If you're thinking of earning a bit of extra money by "helping" other students with their essays - bad news. Google has announced it is to ban adverts for essay writing services.

From next month, Google will no longer take adverts from companies which sell essays and dissertations.

In recent months many universities have complained that students are handing in work that is not their own - and undermining the hard work of other students in the process.

Professor Drummond Bone, president of Universities UK, said in response to Google's announcement: "Making life harder for these cynical web 'essay mills' is a step in the right direction.

"We welcome this move. Essay writing sites claim that students pay hundreds of pounds for model answers - but do not then submit these as their own work. We all know this claim is absurd."

However, several of the companies concerned have reacted angrily to the news. Matthew Wilson, managing director of Essaywriter.co.uk, has insisted that it is legitimate firms that will suffer.

He emphasised that his company's essays were intended to be used as a tool for students, rather than something to be passed off as their own work.

There have been reports that payments of up to £5,000 have been paid to such companies for the production of single pieces of extended work.
