1,000 Glasgow Jobs For Young People

24 Nov 2010

1,000 Glasgow Jobs For Young People Over the course of the next two years there will be 1,000 full or part time Glasgow jobs opened up for young people. The new jobs in the Scottish city will be created by a scheme which is set to go live at the beginning of 2011.

The 1,000 Glasgow jobs are to be earmarked for young people aged 18 to 24 who have been unable to find a full or part time job for 6 months or more.

Glasgow Council Leader, Gordon Matheson, said they would not abandon young people in the city and that £7 million was being invested into the Commonwealth Jobs Fund. The money being spent would go towards creating the 1,000 new full and part time Glasgow jobs throughout 2011 and 2012, said Matheson.

The Commonwealth Jobs Fund follows in the footsteps of the successful Commonwealth Apprenticeship Initiative in Glasgow which has seen close to 600 apprenticeship opportunities opened up for school leavers this year. Much of the money invested in the apprentice initiative was funded by private sector businesses in Glasgow.

If you are a young person who has struggled to find a job in Glasgow then this new Commonwealth Jobs Fund scheme is definitely something that you should take advantage of.
