30 Sep 2010

Over 14,000 Sainsbury’s Seasonal Jobs For Christmas & New Year Sainsbury’s, the supermarket giant, are starting to recruit over 14,000 staff for Sainsbury’s seasonal jobs and permanent positions to assist them in their traditionally hectic Christmas and New Year period.

The new Sainbury’s recruits are expected to start working in these holiday jobs by the end of November carrying out tasks such as manning the tills, customer services, filling the shelves and assisting the online delivery staff.

Sainsbury's Retail director of Human Resources, Helen Webb, said they were proud to be offering these job opportunities. "Retail is a fast-paced, dynamic industry all year round but there really is no more exciting time to be in store than Christmas. We are looking for enthusiastic, hard working colleagues who have a passion for great customer service. In exchange we offer flexible working hours and a competitive salary,” said Webb.

And Sainsbury’s Customer Service and Colleague Director, Gwyn Burr, spoke of how many people start out with seasonal jobs at Sainsbury’s but go on to stay with the company: "Many of the people who work with us in the run up to Christmas are impressed what a great place to work Sainsbury's is and with the wide-ranging opportunities, and join us on a permanent basis to develop their careers with us.”

Burr said that last year over 100 staff that filled the Sainsbury’s seasonal jobs went on to the fast-track trainee management programme at a later date.

In last year’s Christmas and New Year holiday, over 24 million shoppers visited Sainsbury’s stores and the retailer is expecting yet another busy few weeks at the end of this year. The company also mentioned that in addition to the 14,000 seasonal jobs, they are also hoping to fill 3,500 other retail positions before March 2011 to help them open more new stores and expand their retail business.

Even in their quieter weeks, Sainsbury’s still have around 19 million customers visiting almost 900 stores – and that’s why they employ 150 thousand staff in retail roles to help them.
