T J Hughes, the UK discount department store, is creating 100 new full or part time jobs in Southend with the opening of a new £3 million store there in August.

Refitted from the old Woolworths store on the High Street in Southend, the new two storey T J Hughes will have over twenty thousand square feet to trade from.

Liverpool based company T J Hughes, which started out in business in 1912, offers many benefits to anyone working in full or part time jobs. Typically workers at T J Hughes get discount of up to 20 per cent, up to 33 days holiday and a competitive rate of pay.

Speaking about the new Southend store, sales director at T J Hughes, Chris McKeown, said: “We are delighted to confirm we are opening a new store in August and we are in the middle of the refit. We are certain the people of Southend will enjoy shopping at TJ Hughes. We are the UK’s only discount department store, with a wide range of products across home, textiles, beauty & fragrance, menswear, lingerie, toys and electrical.”

Local enterprise, tourism and regeneration councillor Ian Robertson was also happy about the new business and said it was exactly the sort of thing Southend needed. “We need to give them a warm welcome to the town and hope that they attract other business to come here as well,” added Robertson.
