Sainsbury’s Suppliers Offer 100 Temporary Jobs

11 May 2010

Sainsbury’s Suppliers Offer 100 Temporary Jobs Sainsbury’s, the supermarket retailer, has reached an agreement with its suppliers to provide funding for 100 temporary jobs for trainees.

The scheme, called Sainsbury’s Supplier Trainee Partnerships has been agreed with 60 businesses who supply retail, engineering and construction services to the supermarket.

The temporary vacancies will be for a one year period and the trainees will work in new and existing stores and sites. Sainsbury have said they hope that after the 12 month temporary jobs finish the trainees will be taken on by the suppliers on a permanent basis or will go on to higher education.

The temporary jobs are being offered to people who are currently unemployed. They will start in the summer and will offer the 100 trainees a chance to learn skills in trades where there is a skill shortage. Sainsbury’s will offer support to the trainees while they are working for the suppliers businesses.

Suppliers taking part in the scheme include McCue Corporation, Carmel Building Services and Longcross Construction.

Sainsbury’s commercial director, Neil Sachdev, said it was due to the company’s expansion plans and their strong relationships with their suppliers that these temporary jobs for trainees could be offered.

Sachdev said: “This programme is a real chance for candidates to enjoy a year of unrivalled on-the-job training with companies that are leaders in their fields. This is a groundbreaking initiative and we hope that other companies will follow our lead in getting the country working as well as providing meaningful opportunities for unemployed people.”
