Tesco Generating 9,000 New Full And Part Time Jobs In UK Tesco, the British supermarket chain, is to create 16,000 new full and part time jobs – and 9,000 of them will be located in the UK.

In a major expansion of their supermarket empire the company is opening 80 new superstores and expanding current stores throughout Britain. Tesco are to increase their floorspace in the UK by almost two and a half million square feet in an effort to consolidate their place as Britain’s leading supermarket.

Overseas there will be a further 7,000 new full and part time positions on offer as Tesco open up a further 8.5 million square feet of shop space worldwide.

Tesco have weathered the financial crisis remarkably well over the last couple of year. Net profits were up by 9.3 per cent in 2009 giving the retailing giant annual pre-tax profits of over £3 billion last year.

Speaking recently of the thousands of new full and part time jobs, chief executive of Tesco, Sir Terry Leahy, said: “We have been helped in property by the recession. Local authorities want the jobs, the investment, so we’ve been able to get a few more store applications through. That’s good news. We’re creating 9,000 jobs in the UK — and they’re good jobs, too.”
