Santander Expands Graduate Job Scheme

24 Feb 2010

Santander Expands Graduate Job Scheme Santander, a leading personal finance, mortgage and saving company in the UK, will have more graduate jobs in finance up for grabs this year after announcing an expansion of their graduate scheme to include corporate banking.

The company now expects to have graduate job places for 230 people in their key business areas of private banking, corporate and commercial banking, retail distribution and global banking.

Santander, based in Spain and purchaser of Abbey, Bradford & Bingley and Alliance & Leicester, will have over 1,300 branches in the UK by the end of the year, serving over 25 million customers.

Anyone who succeeds in obtaining one of the graduate jobs will have a choice of two training paths. Those opting for an accelerated entry into the scheme will join the workforce immediately and will be assigned one designated role. The other option for graduates is to follow a more traditional route where they will work in a number of different positions over three years to gain a wider experience of the whole business banking world.

Santander will also start internships and work experience placements later in 2010.

Director of Human Resources at Santander, Simon Lloyd, said: "The uplift in the number of graduates we are taking on demonstrates the strength of the Santander approach to banking. We see our investment in graduates as an important step on the road to becoming the best commercial bank in the UK."
