Morrisons Stores Bring 800 New Full And Part Time Jobs

31 Jan 2010

Morrisons Stores Bring 800 New Full And Part Time Jobs Morrisons has opened three new supermarkets and created 800 new full and part time jobs in the process. The three new stores are located in Willenhall in the West Midlands, Streatham in South London and Dover.

The opening of the three new supermarkets is part of Morrisons’ larger plan to expand their floor space by a further one million square feet by 2013. They have also been seeking to bolster their ranks in the south of England as they are sometimes considered as a traditionally northern grocer.

Over 40% of the jobs have already gone to jobseekers who were unemployed and all staff will be trained by Morrisons to help them achieve a nationally recognised qualification in the retail industry.

Morrisons’ Human Resources director, Norman Pickavance spoke of the company’s good record in the training up of staff from both full and part time positions in the supermarket: "Every Morrisons employee is given the opportunity of developing their career so they can go from the shop floor to the top floor. Of the top executives in the company 30% of them started their career on the shop floor. A critical element of the quality of service we offer to our customers is the investment we make in the training development of our people."

The new full and part time jobs at Morrisons are many and varied – such as manning the checkouts, working in the stores’ bakeries and even some management roles.
