UK Firms Still Eager To Provide Graduate Jobs

08 Jan 2010

UK Firms Still Eager To Provide Graduate Jobs The International Network of Graduate Recruitment and Development Associations’ (INGRADA) latest global graduate survey has revealed that the UK is still eager to provide graduate jobs in the employment marketplace. The INGRADA report also highlighted the fact that graduates continue to offer firms very good value for money.

In addition to the UK, five other countries were polled for the survey; the United States, Canada, South Africa, Australia and Hong Kong. The research found, however, that the UK topped the survey for the number of applicants – almost fifty - chasing each single graduate job available.

The average salary for a graduate job in the UK is now £25,000 – far more than the £9,000 on offer in South Africa. However, the UK compares less favourably against the other countries surveyed. Those in graduate positions in Canada and Australia net an average of £28,000 and that rises to almost £30,000 in the United States. The biggest graduate earners were found to be in Hong Kong where graduate vacancies command salaries of up to £42,000.

The good news about UK companies still looking to recruit graduates follows on the back of some other positive indications in the wider job market. In December, the monthly Report on Jobs produced by the REC and KPMG suggested that there was a higher rate of staff recruitment for the fifth month in a row. Also, there has been recent, growing confidence amongst recruiters in the retail sector.
