2010 British Horseracing – Graduate Job Scheme Open

06 Jan 2010

2010 British Horseracing – Graduate Job Scheme Open Anyone interested in horses and horse racing who is looking for a graduate job will be thrilled to hear that the British Horseracing Authority (BHA) has opened their graduate scheme for 2010.

The BHA Graduate Development Programme has been in existence for almost 20 years now. The programme begins with a fortnight of presentations, field trips and personal growth training at the British Racing School residential centre. Following on from this, there will also be an eight-week placement for the graduates at one of the BHA’s organisations - such as William Hill or the Racecourse Association.

During the programme, those hoping to get a graduate job in the world of horseracing will gain a highly privileged understanding of the industry.

Speaking to the Horse and Hound magazine, Sophie Hodgkinson, a 2005 graduate of the programme, said that it had been a very appealing course to take part in. Hodgkinson said: "It gave me a fantastic insight, and following the programme I was offered a job at Huntingdon Racecourse. Now, at 26, I am the youngest racecourse managing director in the country."

And Sophie isn’t alone in having success from the BHA graduate programme; many of the 300 or so students that have finished the scheme are now well placed people in the racing industry. Typically, students have gone on to graduate jobs in management at racecourses and trainers’ yards around the country, bloodstock sales – or even on to the British Horseracing Authority itself.

So, if you are interested in a graduate job in an exciting industry then make sure you get your application in to the BHA before the 20th February deadline. You can find details of how to apply here.
