Are you on the lookout for internship opportunities? Well, if so, you will be interested to hear that the Co-operative Group - famous for its financial services, pharmacy and travel businesses – are to extend their internship scheme next year to try to get ahead of the game in finding the cream of the graduate crop.
Last year the Co-operative Group began the recruitment process for five undergraduates who subsequently joined the firm in June this year. The group now expects to expand the programme by taking on a further 10 students and hope that more placements will follow in the future.
There is no age limit for the internships and all students and graduates are eligible to apply for the positions.
The internship scheme is being run in partnership with the National Council for Work Experience (NCWE). The director of the NCWE, Heather Collier, said that, “With internships ranking increasingly high on the government’s agenda for graduates to improve employability, we are pleased to see such an influential organisation committed to providing the absolute highest calibre of experience.”
The group graduate programme manager at the Co-operative Group, Hannah Slaney, said that in spite of the economic downturn their company had ‘a strong desire to continue to develop and recruit young people.’
Slaney added that: “We strive to ensure our placement scheme is market-leading to help to strengthen our position as one of the best places to work.”
