6,000 Temporary Jobs On Offer For Christmas At Tesco

13 Oct 2009

6,000 Temporary Jobs On Offer For Christmas At Tesco Tesco, the supermarket giant, is creating 6,000 new temporary jobs all over the UK for the busy Christmas and New Year period.

Tesco’s 6,000 ‘every little helpers’ will receive the retailer’s standard wage rate and will be able to work in the holiday jobs for between 12 and 36 hours a week.

The recruitment drive will start during October and staff will start to work in the temporary roles in December.

Tesco hope that the scheme will help out their existing staff’s friends and family who are currently unemployed. Around 1 in 5 Tesco employees have a family member or friend who has lost their job in the last year.

Head of resourcing for UK operations at Tesco, Lorna Bryson, said that, “This year we want to give extra support to our staff’s friends and families over the festive period.”

“By offering these temporary roles we hope to provide our staff and their relatives with extra help, supporting those who have been most affected by the economic downturn. Our existing staff and their families will have a little bit extra to spend on making the most of the Christmas celebrations.”

The temporary jobs, however, are of course open to everyone and applicants will be recruited via the supermarket’s normal selection procedures.
