3,500 New Full & Part Time Jobs On Offer At Waitrose

28 Sep 2009

3,500 New Full & Part Time Jobs On Offer At Waitrose Waitrose, the upmarket supermarket, says it will create nearly 3,500 new full or part time jobs by the end of next year.

The largest proportion of the full and part time jobs will be created by the opening of possibly 300 new convenience stores across the UK. This expansion will make job opportunities for around 2,000 people.

1,200 more new full or part time jobs will be made when eight supermarkets are launched before the end of January.

A further 225 jobs will be created with the opening of nine new Waitrose stores in Welcome Break motorway services stations around the UK.

Waitrose managing director Mark Price said that by opening up these new channels and formats Waitrose would be more accessible to customers in more locations and that would enable them to create thousands of new full and part time jobs.

Price said: “We’ve broadened the appeal of our brand with innovations like Essential Waitrose, the ‘Seriously …’ range of indulgent cakes and desserts, Duchy Originals from Waitrose, new non-food ranges, and by being the first UK supermarket to get rid of delivery charges for online grocery shopping - and we’re seeing real sales momentum as a result.”

“We’ve just reported a robust first half of the year and with continued strong performance from our existing stores and this move into the convenience market, we’re planning for double digit growth for the foreseeable future.”
