21 Aug 2009

Tesco Will Create 800 Jobs in Glasgow If you are currently looking for graduate jobs in Glasgow then you will be heartened by news that Tesco are to create 800 positions in a new customer service centre in the Scottish city.

Tesco have not yet released details of whether the new positions will be full time, part time or graduate jobs in Glasgow but it would certainly be worthwhile getting in touch with them at an early stage. They expect to start recruiting for the positions in the next few months so that they can begin the new operation early in 2010.

The move comes as Tesco hope to expand the financial services section of its business. They already have around 6 million finance customers and quite large chunks of the UK credit card and insurance markets. They have also said that they would like to make current accounts available to the public in the next year and a half and mortgages within 24 months.

The Scottish government has provided a grant of £5 million to help set up the new operation and the announcement of the new jobs in Glasgow were well received by the chancellor Alistair Darling and Scotland’s first minister Alex Salmond. Mr Darling said that, “This is a strong vote of confidence in Scotland’s financial services industry from one of the UK’s leading companies. And it shows that even at this difficult time the Scottish and wider UK economy is still creating high-quality jobs.”
