Anyone looking for graduate jobs in Liverpool and surrounding areas will be very interested to learn about the help being offered by St Helens Council. The St Helens Star report that they have a fund of half a million pounds which they are going to use to help school leavers and graduate job seekers in the area.
The council leaders of the Merseyside town have proposed the job creation scheme in response to worries about the level of unemployment creeping up for those aged between 16 and 24. Figures show that almost a third of the 5,771 unemployment benefit claimants in St Helens fall in that age bracket.
It is proposed that St Helens Chamber will fund six month opportunities providing 30 graduate work placements in various local organisations and businesses. The successful recruits will be paid £215 a week under the scheme. Almost £400,000 is being provided by a local enterprise growth initiative to help the graduate work creation project. A further £200,000 will fund 10 graduate jobs within St Helens Council itself.
And it’s not just those looking for graduate jobs that are being assisted. There’s also help for school leavers who will be paid £95 a week on 12 month contracts. They will start out with some NVQ training before moving on to a formal apprenticeship scheme.
It’s great to hear these good news stories about the help on offer to graduates looking for work amongst the general gloom at the moment.
