PwC Extends Internship Scheme To First Year Students

14 Aug 2009

PwC Extends Internship Scheme To First Year Students PricewaterhouseCoopers has widened the net of its internships scheme to include first year university students. In an effort to nurture valuable workplace skills at an early stage they have launched a five-day residential ‘Insight Academy’ to improve its overall internship strategy.

Head of recruitment at PwC, Sonja Stockton, said that, “The recession has highlighted the need for students to get to grips with business life and skills throughout their degree, not only towards the end of it. Building these skills as early as possible will pay dividends to employers and graduates alike in the long run.”

It is hoped that the 5 day placement will help PwC with the selection process for their full popular internship scheme which is often oversubscribed – it has had a 40 percent increase this year alone.

Stockton said that first year students at university often miss out on opportunities to gain real life work experience and develop business skills because they don’t have as easy access to internships as their second and third year counterparts. She stressed that this opportunity was not a one-week summer holiday as students would be tested on the theory they have learned.

The 50 first-year students from institutes across the UK lucky enough to land a place on the programme will stand an excellent change of getting on the main internship placements in future years.
