10 Jun 2009

TK Maxx To Create 750 New Full And Part Time Jobs TK Maxx, the discount retailer, will create up to 750 new full and part time jobs in the course of this year.

They will be opening a further 35 outlets in Europe this year, including 10 in the UK and Ireland. This adds to the 225 shops already existing in the UK – and they believe that there is room to expand further towards 275 in the future.

It is expected that the expansion will lead to around 650 new full and part time jobs in the UK and Ireland. A further 100 jobs will be created by opening three new stores in Poland.

TK Maxx is also expecting a huge drive in Germany. They already have 9 stores there and expect to add a further 15 in 2009. It believes that there is scope for up to 300 shops in the country.

About 175 of the full and part time job openings in England will be at TK Maxx bases in Walsall, Wakefield and Stoke.

Paul Sweetenham, the group president and senior executive vice-president of TJX Europe (TK Maxx’s parent company) said that, “Consumer demand remains very strong for our unique off-price concepts and great brands at excellent values. We are outperforming our expectations, even in today’s challenging retail environment.”

Sweetenham added that the European group had seen considerable growth increase in the last couple of years and thought that the new store openings would position TJX Europe well for further growth.

TJX Companies are also planning to expand TK Maxx’s sister company Home Sense from the current 8 stores in the UK and Ireland up to 100 or possibly even 150 stores.
