05 Apr 2007

Graduate recruitment scheme in Millom A new scheme has been devised in Millom to encourage graduate recruitment in the area, according to reports.

Copeland borough council is working with St Martin's College in Ambleside offering subsidies to local businesses who recruit graduates.

Graham McWilliam, economic and tourism development manager at Copeland borough council, told the North-West Evening Mail: "This is a fantastic scheme and we hope that it will help retain talented young people in the Copeland area."

Cath Giel, a councillor and business growth portfolio holder, told the same paper: "I welcome the launch of this new initiative and would encourage local businesses to apply for a grant to support the recruitment of graduates who can help their businesses to expand in the future."

Up to £700 will be made available to the participating businesses in Copleand, providing 50 per cent of the wages.
