Project/Mechanical Engineer Location: Redditch (Hybrid: 3-4 days on-site, Mon-Thurs 8:00-17:00, Fri 8:00-12:00) Rate: £17.50 per hour Our client, a reputable organisation supporting UK MOD projects, is hiring for a Project/Mechanical Engineer to join a critical engineering initiative. This role focuses on supporting the lifecycle extension of a legacy high-pressure inert gas supply system from the 1980s, ensuring its continued operational readiness. What you'll be doing: * Conduct strip and survey investigations, documenting and photographing existing build and test setups * Develop assembly and test procedures, along with maintenance documentation such as repair, overhaul, and spares planning * Lead obsolescence removal efforts, documenting changes and providing justifications for materials, processes, and components like seals and consumables * Assess product compliance, considering obsolescence impacts on qualification, and recommend testing if needed * Update critical documentation including FMECA and customer reports * Provide project oversight, act as the main customer contact, and maintain project plans * Prepare cost estimates and proposals for upcoming project phases What you'll bring: * Proven experience supporting engineering projects involving complex mechanical systems * Strong understanding of mechanical assembly, testing, and documentation processes * Ability to manage obsolescence issues and provide technical justifications * Excellent communication skills to liaise with clients and team members * SC clearance or the ability to obtain it Desired skills: * Experience with legacy or military systems * Knowledge of safety devices, gauges, valves, and pipe assemblies * Familiarity with FMECA updates and product compliance standards Required education: * Engineering qualification or equivalent technical background This is a fantastic opportunity to contribute to a vital defence project with a supportive team.
