Civil Service Apprenticeships - Qualifications & Pathways
There are six different Apprenticeships to choose from within the Civil Service Fast Track so you need to decide where your strengths lie and choose the Apprenticeship where you think your skills will be put to best use. All six Fast Track Apprenticeships are Level 4 (Higher) which are equivalent to a Foundation Degree and even within each programme, there are different roles you could be doing. The Apprenticeships can take up to two years to complete. The six Civil Service schemes for the Fast Track Apprenticeship are:

Business:
Qualifications on completion of Business Administration Civil Service Fast Track Apprenticeship: Level 4 Diploma in Business & Professional Administration and NVQ Diploma in Business Administration.
Qualifications needed to do the Business Administration Civil Service Fast track Apprenticeship: 5 GCSEs and Grades A-C (or the new Grade 4), including Maths and English.

UK government jobs via the Business Fast Track Apprenticeship will suit those of you who are looking to do customer centred work. Civil Service Apprenticeships in Business will see you coordinating activities and managing people to bring out the very best in them. You will also have a hand in managing communications so an interest in digital processes will be beneficial.

Commercial:
Qualifications on completion of Commercial Civil Service Fast Track Apprenticeship: Level 4 Diploma with the Chartered Institute of Procurement & Supply.
Qualifications needed to do the Commercial Civil Service Fast track Apprenticeship: 5 GCSEs and Grades A-C (or the new Grade 4), including Maths and English.

The Commercial Civil Service Fast Track Apprenticeship is where you will be focussing on the Government’s purchasing of goods and services. This is a very important role and you will receive lots of support as you work through your Apprenticeship. Civil Service Apprenticeships in the Commercial sector mean you could be working across a variety of departments. For example, you might be doing HMRC jobs or working within the Department of Health or Education, to name just a few.

Your role will include duties such as negotiating contracts and helping departments to source new IT systems. The Commercial Fast Track Civil Service Apprenticeship is an exam-based qualification and you will be given some study leave as well as classroom based learning so that you can complete your Apprenticeship successfully.

Digital, Data & Technology:
Qualifications on completion of Digital, Data & Technology Civil Service Fast Track Apprenticeship: Level 4 qualifications. The title of your qualification will differ, depending on which Civil Service department you are working in and the Civil Service jobs you are matched to. Your Level 4 qualifications could be as a Network Engineer, Data Analyst, Software Developer, Software Tester or IS Business Analyst.
Qualifications needed to do the Digital, Data & Technology Civil Service Fast track Apprenticeship: 5 GCSEs and Grades A-C (or the new Grade 4), including Maths and English. 2 A Levels at Grade C and above. (STEM subjects - Science, Technology, Engineering, Maths - are desirable.)

Finance:
Qualifications on completion of Finance Civil Service Fast Track Apprenticeship: Level 4 Finance qualification - Professional Accountant and Taxation Technician Standard.
Qualifications needed to do the Finance Civil Service Fast track Apprenticeship: 5 GCSEs and Grades A-C (or the new Grade 4), including Maths and English.

If you think you can make a contribution to the financial management of the Government, the Finance Civil Service fast Track Apprenticeship is for you. You will be working alongside finance professionals, working on budgets, cost control and financial guidance.

Civil Service jobs during your Finance Fast track Apprenticeship could be as a Finance Analyst, Accounts Executive, Control Officer, Costs Budget Manager. You could be working in departments such as HMRC, Ministry of Defence and Department for Transport, amongst others.

Policy:
Qualifications on completion of Policy Civil Service Fast Track Apprenticeship: Level 4 Policy Officer Standard.
Qualifications needed to do the Policy Civil Service Fast track Apprenticeship: 5 GCSEs and Grades A-C (or the new Grade 4), including Maths and English. 2 A Levels at Grade D or above in any subject.

The Civil Service Fast Track Apprenticeship in Policy will be really interesting for those of you who are interested in how Government policies affect society. In this role, you will be assisting the implementation of new legislation, speaking with communities and the general public about policies and gathering evidence to support the implementation of any new policies.

You could be doing Policy Civil Service Apprenticeships in various Government departments. Home Office Apprenticeships, for example. Her Majesty’s Treasury or the Department for International Trade, amongst others.

Project Delivery:
Qualifications on completion of Project Delivery Civil Service Fast Track Apprenticeship: Level 4 Associate Project Management Apprenticeship Standard.
Qualifications needed to do the Project Delivery Civil Service Fast track Apprenticeship: 5 GCSEs and Grades A-C (or the new Grade 4), including Maths and English. 2 A Levels at Grade D or above in any subject.

If your Civil Service Fast Track Apprenticeship is in Project delivery, you will be helping to improve the efficiency of the Government. You might be working on infrastructure projects or hospital projects, for example. The projects you will work on are those that directly affect the lives of people in the UK so this could be a very rewarding role.

The Project Delivery Fast Track apprenticeship needs young people who enjoy being in a fast paced environment and who love to work as part of a team to build and deliver projects on time and within budget.
