Role overview:
Black Sheep Coffee is seeking a highly motivated, detail-oriented and hands-on Staff Accountant to join our team. Based in our Miami office, you will provide support across all areas of Finance. This position would suit someone early in their Finance career, with some prior experience already under their belt, offering a well-rounded role in the Finance Department of an exciting scale-up business.
As the first Finance hire in the US, the successful candidate will get exposure to a rapidly scaling business during its entry into the US market. In this role, you will gain exposure to various aspects of the Finance function – including management accounting, account reconciliations, and budgeting and forecasting – while also supporting with the new store opening process and entry into new states across the US. The role will report into the US Finance Business Partner (UK based) with direct exposure to the Founders/Co-CEOs (both based in Miami).
Role responsibilities:
- Financial Reconciliation: Assist in reconciling bank transactions and general ledger accounts to maintain up-to-date and accurate financial records.
- Month-End Close Activities: Participate in month-end tasks including preparing journal entries and supporting documentation for financial reporting.
- Deliver Insightful Reporting & Analysis: Assist with the preparation of monthly reports for business leaders that provide key insights and highlight critical information to support informed decision-making
- Cross Functional Projects: Play a key role in high-impact, cross-functional task forces driving the US market entry – providing finance support for everything from supply chain build-out and new store launches to product rollouts and marketing campaigns
- Audit Support: Assist with providing support and information to our UK and US auditors.
- Process Improvement: Identify opportunities for process improvements, efficiencies or automation within accounting workflows
- Tax Reporting: Prepare monthly tax returns to ensure timely filing, including state sales and use tax
Skills & Experience Required:
- Degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business or an equivalent combination of education and experience
- Previous experience (1-3 years) working in a Finance Department, ideally in the retail/hospitality sector, with some experience of the month end close process
- Must have working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications, including intermediate skills with Excel
- Able to take a hands-on approach, solve problems efficiently, and adapt to changing priorities in a fast-paced, growing environment
- High attention to detail and a commitment to accuracy in data and reporting
- Strong analytical and critical thinking skills with an interest in solving problems and optimizing processes
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
