Mechanical Assembly Fitter Location Bedford Salary£30,000 to £35,000, dependent on experience Job TypeFull-time, Permanent About the RoleWe are currently recruiting for an experienced Mechanical Assembly Fitter to join a leading manufacturer of pumps used within the land drainage, flood defence and sewage industries. Reporting to the Operations Manager, you will be part of a skilled workshop team responsible for the assembly and testing of high-quality pump systems, ensuring customer delivery requirements are met. This is an excellent opportunity for an individual with a strong mechanical background who enjoys working in a hands-on engineering environment and contributing to continuous improvement initiatives. Key Responsibilities Assemble mechanical and electrical components from engineering drawings, Bills of Materials (BOMs) and work instructions to produce completed pump assemblies. Carry out stripping, preparation, termination and continuity testing of electrical cables. Perform mechanical fitting and assembly operations using hand, power and pneumatic tools. Read and interpret engineering drawings, checklists and visual work instructions. Complete dimensional checks, quality inspections and associated production documentation accurately. Operate overhead cranes and forklift trucks to move large and heavy components safely around the workshop. Load and unload vehicles as required. Work to production schedules and delivery deadlines. Maintain a clean, safe and organised working environment. Ensure all tasks are completed in accordance with Health, Safety, Environmental and Welfare procedures. Support continuous improvement activities and other operational projects as required. About YouTo be successful in this role, you will have: Experience & Qualifications Several years' experience in a Mechanical Fitter, Assembly Fitter or similar engineering role. Experience within a medium to heavy engineering or manufacturing environment. Proven ability to work to production schedules and deadlines. Experience reading and interpreting engineering drawings. Experience completing manufacturing, inspection and quality documentation. Good standard of education. Overhead Crane licence/certification desirable (training can be provided). Forklift Truck licence/certification desirable (training can be provided). Good understanding of Health & Safety requirements within a manufacturing environment. Skills & Attributes Strong mechanical aptitude and practical problem-solving skills. Excellent attention to detail. Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
