Our General Stockperson

Join our progressive mixed farming operation as a General Stockperson supporting both the beef and dairy operation on our large mixed farm. With a herd of 450 pedigree British White beef cattle, a dairy herd of water buffalo milked twice a day, a flock of pedigree sheep and a large arable operation, our 2,500 acre farm provides a unique opportunity to work within a progressive, regenerative mixed farming estate where all milk and meat is utilised by our skilled cheesemakers and butchers.


The farm is currently moving into a brand-new, state-of-the-art beef and dairy unit, with cutting-edge facilities including a brand new rotary parlour, robotic feeding unit and robotic feed pushers, automatic calf feeders and a fleet of modern machinery you’ll be at the heart of an innovative and ambitious farming operation. Working within a close-knit farm team and reporting to the Head Stockman and Farm Manager, you’ll contribute to a wider estate that connects farming directly to our farm shop, ecommerce, restaurants and hotel.


This role is primarily supporting the Head Stockman of the pedigree beef herd but will also involve helping the dairy team with one milking a day.


Key Responsibilities

  • Livestock Checks
  • Handling, weighing and moving cattle
  • Medicine administration where required
  • Assisting the Head Stockman with calving
  • Milking once a day as part of a team in a new rotary parlour
  • Calf rearing and youngstock management
  • Feeding, bedding and mucking out livestock
  • Operating modern farm machinery (training provided if required)
  • Maintaining high standards of animal welfare and yard hygiene
  • Supporting regenerative farming practices across the estate
  • Working independently at times and as part of the wider dairy team
  • Participating in shift work including 1 in 3 weekends

What we're looking for

  • Previous cattle experience including handling cattle and administering medicine
  • Previous milking experience
  • A genuine passion for livestock and enthusiasm to work with both cattle and water buffalo
  • Commitment to the highest standards of animal welfare
  • Understanding of regenerative agricultural practices
  • Comfortable working independently and as part of a team
  • Strong communication skills
  • Driving licence (essential)
  • Telehandler licence (desirable)


Where you'll be working

The candidate will form part of a wider farm team, reporting to the Head Stockman and in turn Farm Manager of a larger mixed farming operation, which includes a total of 12 staff.

The farm resides on a 3,000 acre mixed farming Estate. In addition to the large herd of pedigree cattle we have a dairy herd of water buffalo, sheep and an arable operation.
