Our Food Technologist plays a vital role in championing food safety and quality across both Retail and Production. You will be at the heart of ensuring robust standards are upheld, supporting new product development and launches while working closely with suppliers and internal teams. This is a dynamic and fast-paced position where your expertise will directly influence product integrity, compliance, and continuous improvement across the estate.
Key Responsibilities
- Support the development and implementation of food safety programmes, policies, and procedures
- Monitor, verify, and validate food safety controls across supply chain and production
- Ensure compliance with food safety legislation, standards, and internal policies
- Collaborate with Retail teams to support successful product launches
- Deliver training on food safety, hygiene, and compliance standards
- Manage supplier quality assurance and resolve non-compliance issues
- Investigate customer complaints and support timely resolution
- Maintain accurate records, product specifications, and reporting systems

What we're looking for
- Experience in a similar role within the food or drink industry
- Strong communication skills with the ability to engage stakeholders at all levels
- Excellent attention to detail and accuracy
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines
- Proactive, organised, and adaptable approach
- Strong IT skills including Excel, Word, and PowerPoint
- HACCP and Food Safety training
- Understanding of supplier quality assurance and compliance systems
Where you'll be working
The Technical department operates as a centralised Food Safety function supporting the Commerce of The Newt in Somerset. It is responsible for overseeing and maintaining food safety standards across a diverse range of operations, including the Creamery, Butchery, Bakery, Factory, Warehouse, Cyder Production, and both branded and non-branded third-party products.
