About The House of KOKO
The House of KOKO is a private members' club in the heart of Camden, bringing together food, drink, music and culture under one roof.
Our diverse hospitality offering encompasses three restaurants and eight bars, alongside an exciting programme of events and experiences. Food is at the heart of what we do, and our kitchens are an integral part of creating memorable experiences for our members and their guests.
We're looking for an ambitious Commis Chef to join our growing kitchen brigade. Whether you're starting your professional kitchen career or looking to build on your early experience, this is an opportunity to develop your skills, learn from experienced Head and Sous Chefs, and be part of a team that takes pride in delivering exceptional food.
You'll gain hands-on experience across a dynamic hospitality operation, developing your knowledge of ingredients, cooking techniques, preparation and service while building the foundations for a successful career in professional kitchens.
We're looking for someone with a genuine passion for food, a positive attitude and the drive to keep learning. You don't need to know everything already — we're interested in your potential, your work ethic and your willingness to grow.
Why Join The House of KOKO?
We believe your work should inspire you and reward you, too. Alongside the opportunity to learn and develop within a unique hospitality environment, you'll enjoy a range of benefits, including:
- Health & Wellbeing: Wellbeing platform, cash plans, Employee Assistance Programme and virtual GP service.
- Work & Lifestyle: Your birthday off, staff meals on shift and contributions towards late-night taxi fares.
- Pay & Progression: Internal development opportunities, tailored training, fortnightly pay with tronc and a pension scheme.
- Culture & Perks: Staff discounts, ticket access, brand perks, local partnerships and our Refer a Friend bonus scheme.
The Role
As a Commis Chef, you'll play an important part in the day-to-day running of our kitchens, supporting the wider brigade with food preparation, cooking and service. Working alongside experienced chefs, you'll develop your technical skills, build confidence and learn what it takes to deliver consistently high-quality food in a busy, professional environment.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Learn from the best: Work closely with our Head Chefs, Sous Chefs and senior kitchen team, developing your knowledge, techniques and confidence.
- Build your foundations: Assist with food preparation, including chopping, weighing, portioning and preparing ingredients to the required standards.
- Support service: Help prepare and cook dishes, following recipes, instructions and presentation standards while working efficiently as part of the brigade.
- Take pride in your work: Keep your workstation clean, organised and well stocked, ensuring ingredients and equipment are ready for service.
- Maintain high standards: Follow food safety, hygiene and health and safety procedures, including correct food storage, labelling and rotation.
- Be a team player: Communicate clearly, support your colleagues and contribute to a positive kitchen environment.
- Stay organised under pressure: Learn to manage your time, prioritise tasks and maintain attention to detail during busy services.
- Keep developing: Take feedback positively, ask questions and look for opportunities to improve your skills and understanding of professional cookery.
- Work responsibly: Help minimise food waste, handle ingredients carefully and follow procedures for stock control and portioning.
About You
We're looking for someone who is enthusiastic about food, eager to learn and ready to make the most of an opportunity to develop within a high-quality kitchen operation.
You'll ideally bring:
- A genuine passion for cooking and an ambition to build a career in professional kitchens.
- Some kitchen experience, whether through previous employment, training, a college course or a culinary apprenticeship. We're also happy to hear from enthusiastic candidates at the beginning of their careers.
- A positive attitude, strong work ethic and willingness to get stuck in.
- Good organisation and an understanding of the importance of preparation and cleanliness.
- An interest in learning new cooking techniques, ingredients and ways of working.
- A good awareness of food hygiene and safety, or a willingness to learn and follow best practice.
- The ability to listen, take direction and respond positively to feedback.
- A collaborative attitude and the ability to work well with others in a fast-paced environment.
Above all, we're looking for someone with ambition, curiosity and pride in their craft. You'll bring enthusiasm to every shift, take your development seriously and understand that great chefs are built through consistency, teamwork and a willingness to learn.
At The House of KOKO, you'll have the opportunity to develop your skills, gain experience across a varied hospitality operation and take the next steps towards progressing your culinary career.
As part of a live hospitality operation, evening services and weekend working are an essential part of the role. Flexibility is available where operationally possible, but candidates should be comfortable working in line with our service and trading hours.
Please note that we can only consider applicants with the right to work in the UK.
