WHERE YOU SIT

As our Chemical & Insole Developer, you’ll be part of the GSC team working closely with brilliant people across the business and reporting into Bottom Stock Operations Manager. You’ll be right at the heart of fast‑moving projects that shape how we show up for our consumers - today and tomorrow.

WHERE YOU CONTRIBUTE

The Chemical and Insole Developer enables consumer-centred product creation by developing, testing and governing chemical and insole materials from concept through bulk production. Sitting within Materials Management, the role connects Product Development, Design, Quality, Sourcing, suppliers and manufacturing partners to deliver safe, compliant and scalable bottom-stock solutions that protect design intent, quality, cost, sustainability and seasonal timelines.

CORE ACCOUNTABILITIES

As our Chemical & Insole Developer, you will be responsible for:

  • Managing the chemical and insole material library, technical specifications, formulas, approvals, digital records and testing schedules, ensuring accurate and traceable information across PLM and relevant systems.
  • Sourcing and developing innovative, sustainable material solutions that meet seasonal design briefs, technical requirements, quality standards and commercial objectives.
  • Planning and validating chemical and physical testing across laboratory, pilot and production stages, interpreting results and resolving material or process failures through evidence-based corrective action.
  • Collaborating and commercialising approved materials with Design, Product Development, Quality, Sourcing, suppliers and manufacturing teams, ensuring scalable bulk production within development timelines.
  • Maintaining quality, safety and regulatory compliance while developing supplier capabilities, benchmarking costs and market options, and providing technical guidance and development support to the direct report.

.

KEY SKILLS & CAPABILITIES

Put simply, the key things we’re looking for are:

  • Diploma or associate degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Materials Science or a related discipline, with practical experience in chemical, insole or footwear-material development, testing or manufacturing.
  • Working knowledge of chemical formulation, polymer science and materials such as rubber, foam, adhesives, coatings or leather, including laboratory testing and transition to bulk production.
  • Confident using laboratory and material-testing equipment, interpreting results, diagnosing material or process failures, and recommending practical corrective actions.
  • Strong understanding of laboratory practices, chemical management, health, safety and environmental controls, alongside commercial awareness of material costs, seasonal pricing and supplier capabilities.
  • Highly organised and detail-oriented, with experience maintaining technical specifications, formulas, reports, material libraries and PLM data; strong communication, cross-functional collaboration and supplier management skills.
  • Hands-on, flexible and safety-conscious, with the ability to work across laboratories and factories, travel as required, and guide and develop a direct report through clear priorities and accountability.
