Liverpool City Council creating almost 30 new apprenticeships
Liverpool City Council is creating 29 new apprenticeship opportunities for young people through a new programme designed to help local residents earn, learn and take their first steps into a career.
The Liverpool Young Futures Apprenticeship Programme will offer paid positions across a wide range of careers, giving young people the chance to gain practical workplace experience while working towards a nationally recognised qualification.
Roles are available in areas including marketing, digital content creation, ICT, environmental health, emergency resilience, housing, parks & green spaces, health & social care and venue operations.
All apprentices will be paid the real Living Wage throughout their apprenticeship, combining employment with structured training and qualifications.
The programme is primarily open to Liverpool residents aged 16 to 20. Young people can apply up to the age of 24 if they are eligible through an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP) or are care experienced. Eligible Liverpool City Council care leavers living outside the city boundary can also apply.
Applications opened a few days ago (13 August 2026) but will close on 1 September 2026, so, with just a couple of weeks left, you should apply very soon if you are interested in a place on the scheme.
One application will allow candidates to be considered for a range of opportunities, with applicants able to indicate which roles are of greatest interest later in the recruitment process.
Liverpool City Council already employs around 60 apprentices and 25 graduates across a wide variety of professions. The Liverpool Young Futures programme will build on this commitment by creating additional opportunities specifically for young people living in the city.
The council said the programme forms part of its wider commitment to creating opportunities for local people, improving life chances and developing the workforce needed to support Liverpool's future.
The Liverpool Young Futures programme offers opportunities across a particularly broad range of careers, meaning young people interested in everything from digital and marketing roles to environmental services, technology, housing and health & social care can explore potential career paths.
Welcoming the new apprenticeship programme, Councillor Ruth Bennett, the Deputy Leader of Liverpool City Council Party, said: “Every young person should have the opportunity to build a bright future and a first job can be the start of a rewarding career. The Liverpool Young Futures Apprenticeship Programme is about creating those opportunities. These are real jobs, with real pay, where young people can gain qualifications, build confidence and develop skills that will benefit them throughout their careers.”
“Liverpool City Council already has a strong apprenticeship programme and this new initiative takes that commitment even further. By investing in young people today, we are helping to build the workforce Liverpool will need in the future,” added Ms Bennett.

The event will give potential applicants the chance to meet hiring managers, find out more about the available apprenticeship roles and ask questions about the application process.
