Do you have a real passion for cooking but have not necessarily considered a career as a chef? Well now is the time, as we have a very exciting opportunity for an Apprentice Commis Chef to join our team at the Museum of Science and Industry in Manchester. 



We are looking for a driven, ambitious and passionate individual who is looking to take their first step into a Commis Chef role in a very unique venue. You will be supported to complete the Commis Chef Level 2 Apprenticeship with the view to for you to progress into a Chef de Partie role in the future.



You’ll be working for the World’s largest caterer, a Company that employ more Chefs that anyone else so we know a thing or two about developing our people for real careers. 



Main Responsibilities




  • Understand the unit and different operational areas

  • Assist with the movement of stock and equipment on site as required

  • Assist with the management of BOH/Storage areas to ensure H&S regulations are met

  • Ensure deliveries are received and checked off on arrival

  • Manage/investigate any variances on deliveries – communicate with teams

  • Teams are supported with additional stock/BOH on request during busy event days

  • Stock take is completed weekly – logistics manager to double check the count completed by the teams

  • To prepare, cook and assemble menus in line with the specs drawn up by head chef

  • Ensure portion control happens in line with spec

  • Ensure all food is purchased from approved suppliers

  • Ensure all food is handled safely as per food hygiene regulations

  • Ensure all food is cooked/held at the required temperatures as per UK food safety law & temperatures recorded

  • To use machinery as trained and shown, ensuring equipment is used safely, reporting any maintenance issues to line manager
