Job Description

Kier has established this exciting opportunity to recruit and train their professionals of the future. Our Apprenticeship will give you the opportunity to train primarily as a Construction Technician but with the focus on Construction Management. We will tailor the qualification and site placement to your role within Kier Highways.



Join us as an apprentice and after 2 ½ years you’ll gain an advanced apprenticeship in construction and you’ll be ready to begin your career in one of the most exciting industries around! You will receive on-going training and support to enable you to play an important role in one of our project teams.



On a daily basis you will assist to instruct our skilled workforce, maintain diaries of site activities and ensure works are carried out safely to the company’s Health and Safety procedures. You will join the varied line-up of construction professionals who make up the site supervisory and management teams who are responsible for the delivery of an annual programme of Providers Works schemes including road, structures and technology renewals and minor improvement schemes together with the management and administration of Managed Works schemes under Highways England’s Asset Support Framework.



You will be part of a team that turns plans into reality, ensuring the project runs smoothly, safely and on-target. You would play an important role in managing health and safety on sites, as well looking after the environment.

  • Ability to take and follow instruction

  • Ability to work outside in all weather conditions



Skills Required :

  • Good standards of written and verbal communication

  • Strong numeracy

  • IT literate

  • Willingness to learn

  • Customer service skills

  • UK driving licence



Future Prospects :

This is very much the start of an exciting career in the construction industry with wide ranging prospects which may span a number of roles.



The initial stages of the programme will provide the essential grounding and understanding of what is a challenging environment. As the programme progresses, depending on the role you choose to pursue, you may progress to a professionally recognised qualification providing the foundations for a career which can lead to the management of site teams. Options include engineering, quantity surveying, site management, planning, buying, estimating, designing and many more.



Kier is committed to the long term development of their staff. The Construction Technician programme is very much the start, apprentices who display the required abilities and attitude will become permanent employees.
