Job Description

In particular, you will:




  • Raise awareness of the Youth Zone amongst the whole community including young people, partners, funders and potential patrons

  • Engage with young people, the Inspire team and different stakeholders to really emphasise the Inspire

  • Portray a positive image of young people, their achievements, development and voice

  • Produce creative communications that really captivate the target audience and tells the Inspire story



The context of the post:



Youth Zones are amazing places: accessible, vibrant, welcoming, fun and caring are just some of the words used by young people to describe their Youth Zone. Inspire Youth Zone, which is opening in April 2018 will be no different. Youth Zones are for young people aged 8 to 19, and up to 25 for young people with additional needs.  Inspire Youth Zone is part of the growing OnSide network alongside Bolton, Blackburn, Manchester, Oldham, Carlisle, Wigan, Wolverhampton, Wirral and Warrington. Inspire Youth Zone, in Chorley, is centrally located, dedicated to young people making a bold statement about the importance of giving young people high-quality places to go in their leisure time and has big ambitions to be a flagship for quality youth provision. Open 7 days a week, on weekends and during school holidays, the Youth Zone’s purpose is to help young people grow to be happy, healthy and successful adults. The state-of-the-art £4.8m million building will provide young people with access to a range of activities, all offering young people the opportunity to try new things, meet new friends and gain support from friendly, warm and positive staff and volunteers. The facilities include a 3G pitch, a gym, sports hall and recreation area, and dance, arts, music and media suites.



Duties and Responsibilities – General:




  • Be a role model for other young people and present a positive “can do” attitude

  • Take personal responsibility for own actions

  • Commit to a culture of continuous improvement

  • Work within the performance framework of Inspire Youth Zone and OnSide

  • Represent Inspire Youth Zone positively and effectively in all dealings with internal colleagues, and external partners

  • Comply with all policies and procedures, with particular reference to safeguarding, codes of conduct health and safety and equality and diversity to ensure all activities are accessible

  • Represent Inspire Youth Zone positively and effectively in all dealings with internal colleagues, and external partners

  • To be alert to issues of safeguarding and child protection, ensuring the welfare and safety of Youth Zone members is promoted and safeguarded, and to report any child protection concerns to the designated Child Protection Officers using the safeguarding policies, procedures and practice (training to be provided)

  • To assist with any promotional activities and visits that take place at the Youth Zone

  • To actively promote the Youth Zone and positively contribute towards increasing Youth Zone membership

  • To adhere to Inspire Youth Zone policies at all times, with particular reference to Health and Safety, Safeguarding and Equal Opportunities



Duties and Responsibilities - Detailed:




  • To work with OnSide Youth Zones Communications team to deliver the Youth Zone’s Communications plan e.g. creating and uploading website content, social media posts, marketing materials and other communication techniques

  • Maintain Inspire’s online content (website and social media) in liaison with Inspire’s staff team, young people and partners in an accurate and timely way. Training will be given to using analytics to monitor and improve the effectiveness and reach of each channel

  • Write and create stories about the Youth Zone which will engage key local and regional media to generate positive media coverage

  • Support in managing all media and general enquiries

  • Work with the OnSide Communications team and Inspire team as well as a local design agency to plan/produce a wide range of marketing materials e.g. leaflets and banners

  • Be open to learning new digital media skills

  • Help update policies

  • Work with young people to gather case studies and support young people to tell their own stories

  • Keep the Youth Zone team up to date with Youth Zone news and activity

  • Contribute to Inspire events to promote and help raise funds for the Youth Zone

  • Work with OnSide and other Youth Zone Communications teams to share best practice

  • Carry out any other reasonable duties as requested by management



Training and support in various aspects will be provided to the successful candidate by experienced members of the OnSide and Chorley Youth Zone teams in the following areas:




  • Safeguarding

  • Website management

  • PR activity

  • Content Creation

  • Media training

  • Video filming editing

  • E-marketing e.g. Mailchimp

  • Social Media training

  • Any other areas needed
