Job Description


  • To promote an enabling environment that meets the varied health and social care needs of adults with learning disabilities, and who may present mental health problems and/or challenging behaviours, in a manner that shows respect and value for them as individuals.

  • To enable the people we support to reach their full potential by supporting the health and wellbeing of each individual, to manage behaviours.

  • Always show individuals respect for their values, beliefs and choices.

  • To pay attention to all aspects of Health and Safety of the person they are supporting, yourself and any significant other as it may be necessary to lone work.



ASPECTS OF THE POSITION:




  • To be part of a team of workers at Stroud Care Services, under the direction and supervision of Project Leader or Manager to ensure individual service user needs are met.

  • Contribute to ensuring an enabling environment for individuals is provided so that their skills are developed, they are able to express choice and build positive relationships.

  • To take responsibility for own personal development and take direction from their supervisor/line manager in a manner that enables the development and improvement of working practice through support, guidance, training and promoting a high standard of support.


Personal Qualities :

  • Good communication and listening skills are essential.

  • Good interpersonal and observational skills are an advantage.

  • Ability to work on own initiative when required.



Skills Required :

  • The individual must be prepared to undergo training and work towards completing the care certificate and NVQ in Health and Social Care.

  • Willingness to undertake relevant training is essential.

  • Must be able to promote and recognise good non-discriminatory practice and challenge that which is not.

  • To be able to work as part of a team and also work on own initiative without supervision.

  • To participate in training and development programmes to ensure the varied needs of the service users are met at all times.

  • To ensure all observations, incidents and information concerning the service users welfare is reported and recorded in line with organisational policy, that ensures consistency in approach and that confidentiality is maintained at all times.

  • To contribute to decisions and changes to individuals programmes, care plans, and follow directions given as a result.

  • To observe in staff and multidisciplinary meetings.

  • To ensure all operational policies and procedures of the organisation and any legislative guidelines are adhered to at all times.

  • To undertake other duties required of this post.
