Job Description


  • To keep up to date and comply with the Early Years Foundation stages.

  • Follow and adhere by legislations and safeguarding procedures.

  • Ensure the health and safety, risk assessment, checklists are carried out prior to the nursery opening and where applicable throughout the day.

  • Carry out any necessary cleaning duties.

  • Ensure the setting is set up prior to the children entering.

  • Ensure activities are age/stage appropriate and/or appropriate for the individual child.

  • Ensure that children are actively engaged in activities, including outings.

  • Follow instructions given by the nursery practitioner.


Personal Qualities :

You should have a high degree of professionalism in your interactions with the other staff and treat other staff members, the senior room staff and the management team with respect at all times. 



You will be expected to work closely with managers, room leaders and other nursery staff to create a positive environment in the nursery and to build close ties and relationships with parents and carers.



You must have the highest regard and dedication to ensuring the nursery is the best it can be at all times and if any member of staff is not upholding this commitment to bring it to the attention of a more senior member of staff.



Skills Required :

You should have knowledge of current legislation and guidance which governs our activities including the appropriate sections of the Children’s Acts 1989 and 2006 as well as all current health and safety, race relations legislation and the EYFS.



As a nursery officer you are responsible for the safety and wellbeing of the children in your care under the guidance of your room leader and 2nd in charge.  The children’s needs must always be your first consideration and your highest priority must be to provide a safe, secure, caring and stimulating environment.  This must be done within the framework of the EYFS and you must ensure that you meet the developmental needs of each individual child.
