Job Description

Part of the Lighthouse Futures Trust, Keepers Coffee & Kitchen is a fantastic friendly café, serving homemade food alongside exceptional gifts, varied selection of plants, original art and a unique selection of re-loved clothing from Prada to Primark, on Otley Old Road, Cookridge, Leeds. Role Purpose

With support from colleagues, the role holder will be responsible for the provision of high quality customer care to the customers in the café, helping with food preparation, all aspects of customer service and stocking the shelves. There may be a requirement to support the other areas of the store as needed.  

Main Duties




  • Serve customers who enter the shop in a friendly and welcoming manner

  • Assist with / undertake food preparation as required

  • Ensure all areas and equipment are kept clean and free of obstructions, ensuring clean food preparation areas and equipment

  • Ensure the shop displays are well maintained/presented stocked

  • Assist with steaming, re-stocking and presenting the pre-loved clothes and gifts section of the store

  • Work with and support the young people with additional needs who attend work at the cafe

  • Work with the policies and procedures of the shop and café, ensuring all health and safety practices are followed

  • Cash handling

  • Support the marketing of the store by delivering leaflets, supporting promotions and events


Personal Qualities :

We are looking for individuals with a passion for customer care and food preparation/service who are keen to develop and apply themselves. Previous experience within a café / kitchen / customer service setting would be an advantage.

  • Enthusiasm for delivering an effective and efficient service to our customers.

  • The ability to handle money and calculate change

  • Acts with honesty and integrity and with a high standard of personal presentation

  • The ability to remain calm under pressure




  • Good personal time management skills, able to work independently and as part of a busy team.

  • The ability to work patiently and be supportive of students with additional needs



Desirable qualities




  • Experience working in a café or serving food




  • Experience of working in a shop or in a sales environment, and a knowledge of sales techniques

  • Food hygiene certificate or willingness to undertake further training, plus a knowledge of food hygiene and health and safety in a kitchen environment

  • Able to diffuse conflict situations with staff or customers in a positive way

  • Experience of working with or alongside young people with additional needs

  • A knowledge of autistic spectrum conditions

  • Flexible approach to working hours and environment



Skills Required :

  • Excellent communication skills with the ability build relationships with colleagues and customers alike

  • Ability to use initiative when working alone

  • Ability to work under pressure and manage a range of tasks simultaneously

  • Commitment to providing excellent standards of customer service

Future Prospects :
