Job Description

Apprentice Educators required to work in the Baby, Toddler and Pre-school sections of our farm based nursery in the Surrey Hills, with on-site Forest School. We are located on a magical site surrounded by open countryside where children’s imaginations are free to run wild. We believe in supporting and developing children’s creativity and connection with the great outdoors by providing education and teaching based on play and exploration.



As an alternative to full time study, it is an exciting opportunity to work with children and learn ‘on the job’. We are always looking for special people who understand our passion and vision to get more children outdoors.



General duties:




  • Ensure all nursery policies and procedures are followed correctly, e.g. safeguarding, recording of accidents, the collection of children and emergency evacuation drills. 

  • To read and follow the guidelines within the staff handbook.

  • To be flexible within working practices of the nursery e.g. to help, where needed, including undertaking certain domestic jobs within the nursery, preparation of snack meals, cleaning equipment etc.

  • To ensure high standards of hygiene and safety are maintained at all times including the completion of accident, incident and existing injury forms.

  • As experience develops to become a key carer for one or more children.

  • Undertaking of specific childcare tasks: the preparation and completion of activities to suit the child’s stage of development, by interaction and extension of activities and play. To ensure that mealtimes are a valuable social occasion. Washing and changing children, as required.

  • To be involved in curriculum planning, policy writing and record keeping as requested by the supervisor.

  • Assist with the setting up and clearing away of all activities and equipment.

  • Assist in the preparation of individual individual learning journey's of children up-to-date including next steps and individual summaries.

Person specification for Trainee Apprentice:




  • Passion for the importance of children playing and learning through play.

  • A desire to connect children with nature and the great outdoors.

  • Good communication skills and ability to work effectively in a team.

  • Lots of energy, creativity and imagination.

  • For intermediate Level 2 Children and Young People’s Workforce qualification no prior qualifications are needed. For the advanced Level 3 Early Years Educator qualification, a Level 2 or GCSE’s in Math and English at a grade C and above are required.



In application please include details of travel plans if you don’t own a car as our location is just outside of Chiddingfold, based on a farm. You will need to either drive or take a lift to and from work, working shift patterns between 7:30- 18:30 Monday to Friday.
