Job Description
Vacancies for PGCE and PhD students to mark GCSE and A-level exams
We are looking for students of English, Geography, Religious Studies/Philosophy and Sociology
At AQA we have a passion for inspiring lessons and great learning. We are an independent education charity and the largest provider of academic qualifications taught in schools and colleges in the UK. We set and mark the papers for around half of all GCSEs and A-levels and nearly one and a half million students sit our exams every summer. We have new and exciting opportunities for PhD and PGCE students/recent graduates to join our examiner team.
The Role
As an AQA exam marker, you’ll mark exam papers from home, either online or paper based scripts. The marking period will start towards the end of May and will finish towards the end of July, depending upon your subject and the paper you mark. The marking period is between three and four weeks. In that time you will need to commit to two to three hours’ marking for five days a week. If you are marking exam papers, they will be sent securely to you and you will need to be able to store these in a secure and confidential environment. If your marking is online you will need to have access to a PC/laptop in a confidential environment.
All of our PhD and PGCE students will be assigned a team leader who will provide support and guidance. In addition, successful applicants will have access to our dedicated examiner assistance team who are on hand to answer any questions.
Your training will be online and you will need to commit a few hours to the training; this will take place towards the end of May/early June. You will also undertake online standardisation; this is your chance to understand and practise applying the mark scheme.
Once you have completed this training you will move to live marking where you will be fully supported by your team leader.
What will it pay?
Depending upon your subject and the paper you are assigned to mark you will earn between £630 and £950.
Benefits of exam marking:
• utilise your knowledge and passion for your subject in new and exciting ways
• build your knowledge of assessment
• broaden your academic CV
• receive free training and personal development

To qualify you will need:

• the ability to follow directions and a mark scheme
• an excellent command of English language
