Job title: Head of Pastoral Care (HPC)
Reports to: Centre Director (CD)
Location: 15 residential and 2 non-residential centres across the UK
Contract and remuneration:
- 4 weeks with a possible extension
- 48 hours a week, including four night shifts from 10pm to 1am a week
- Full board and accommodation provided free of charge for all residential staff
Job overview:
The HPC’s key responsibility is the overall welfare of the students ensuring they are safe, secure, happy and respect other students, staff and the facilities. The HPC must ensure that all staff are allocated bedrooms spread around the boarding houses to ensure the effective supervision of all students, with particular attention to be given to individual students. The HPC must supervise other staff in night duties from 10.00 p.m. to 1.00 a.m. for four nights a week. The role is a Senior Management position therefore the HPC is expected to fulfil a demanding workload.
Job tasks:
- Maintain the overall welfare of all of the students through excellent levels of provision for every student
- Manage a team of Senior Welfare Leaders (SWLs) and Welfare Leaders (WLs) who have the responsibility for the routine pastoral care and welfare of the students at all times
- Ensure fire and safety procedures are displayed and adhered to, including regular fire drills and accommodation checks
- Plan ahead with room allocations for students for the duration of the course
- Run a weekly Welfare Desk to provide information to students, Group Leaders and staff to ensure all needs and concerns are being addressed
- Carry out night duty on a rota basis (four nights per week) and supervise other staff on duty making sure that all buildings are locked, secure and all students are safely in their rooms
- Create rotas utilising welfare working hours to ensure the supervision of students throughout the day, assisting with these welfare duties including meal supervision and bedtime supervision
- Help the CD with student behaviour and liaise with the Centre Management Team to report all damage incidences and serious incidences
- Deal quickly and efficiently with any complaints or issues relating to the accommodation and welfare of the students
- Report maintenance issues to staff and ensure the cleanliness of the residence is maintained to the standards of the school
- Co-ordinate all transfers for student arrivals and departures (coaches/taxis/minibus) by liaising regularly with HO staff
- Ensure that Ardmore Language School’s Health and Safety policies are implemented and adhered to at all times
- Write a full job specific report at the end of the course
