Built by Sir Walter Raleigh in 1594 and the stately home of the Digby family since 1617, Sherborne Castle is a Historic House which reflects a glorious variety of decorative styles from over 400 years of English history. 'Capability' Brown created the 50-acre lake in 1753 and gave Sherborne the very latest in landscape gardening, with magnificent specimen trees, borders and sweeping lawns in one of his finest Lakeland landscapes. The Castle's rich interiors with its splendid collections of art, furniture and porcelain, together with Raleigh's original kitchen, family artefacts and archaeological 'finds' from the old medieval castle are on view in the castle. The Castle and Garden is grade 1 listed, one of only 2.5% of UK listed properties to receive this exceptional status.
Assist in the maintenance of 42 acres of beautiful gardens, the gardens are one the first major commissions of Brown, and are unique in that the design is highly personalised with superb features and plantings. Join our team looking after this rare and enchanting place.This position is temporary, starting spring/summer 2017, running through the summer period; ideally the candidate should possess reasonable plant knowledge and be focused on herbaceous perennials.
The gardens are open to the public.
There is single, self catering accommodation on site or a live out allowance.
Qualifications

- Some English speaking important, good environment to learn and improve.
- Must have good basic horticultural knowledge
- Must have reasonable knowledge of plants and trees
- Must be capable of working outside in all weathers, good level of fitness.
- Would suit student or recent graduate of landscape studies (landscape design or architecture)
- Will need to register for a uk national insurance number if you don't have one already
