Job Description

The purpose of the role is to:




  • Be trained to a certified level and develop skills and knowledge of a teaching assistant/play worker

  • Offer general assistance to the team and project a positive and friendly image to parents/carers and other visitors, either in person or via the telephone

  • Receive, assist and direct parents in accessing the appropriate service in a courteous, efficient, and effective way

  • Undertake a variety of administrative duties to assist in the smooth running of the wrap around care including the support to staff and other members of the team

  • Facilitate effective communication between parents/carers and members of the team

  • To plan, observe and assess children’s development

  • To keep up to date records on progression of children.



Main Responsibilities




  • Maintaining security in accordance with academy processes and procedures

  • Maintain communication on a need to know basis

  • Taking messages and passing on information

  • Maintain children’s learning journeys

  • Initiating contact with and responding to requests from parents/carers and team members

  • Providing clerical assistance to staff as required from time to time for example photocopying and scanning

  • Keeping the kitchen area clean and tidy

  • Keeping the nursery environment both indoors and outdoors tidy and free from obstructions and clutter

  • Showing an awareness of issues regarding confidentiality and to adhere to academy policy at all times

  • Using academy security systems within the workplace according to guidelines

  • Identifying the risks involved in work activities and undertaking such activities in a way that manages those risks

  • Making effective use of training to update knowledge and skills

  • Using appropriate infection control procedures, maintaining work areas in a tidy and safe way and free from hazards

  • Actively reporting of health and safety hazards and infection hazards immediately when recognised

  • Keeping base room clean, assisting in the maintenance of general standards of cleanliness

  • Support the equality, diversity and rights of parents/carers and colleagues

  • Participation in an annual individual performance review, including taking responsibility for maintaining a record of own personal and/or professional development

  • Taking responsibility for own development, learning and performance and demonstrating skills and activities to others who are undertaking similar work

  • Hold a current DBS or be willing to complete the DBS check process
