Job Description

As a Dental Nurse, you are responsible for providing general chair side assistance to the Dentist while maintaining the day to day running requirements of the practice and its patients.



Basic job role:

 




  • Keep the clinical areas and all equipment and instruments clean, tidy and sterile as appropriate according to the practices health and safety and infection control procedures and manufacturers' instructions.

  • Use all equipment and machinery in accordance with manufacturers' recommendations and ensure that they are maintained regularly and in good working order

  • Provide chairside assistance, ensuring that the correct equipment is available

  • Ensure the care and welfare of patients in a friendly, caring, helpful, courteous and professional manner.

  • Accurately complete patient clinical records as directed and being responsible for recording patient information on the practice database

  • Handle all substances in accordance with health and safety policies

  • Complete laboratory request forms, keep records of work sent, received and fitted

  • Make sure laboratory impressions are cleaned and disinfected and recorded in accordance with practice policy and regulations

  • Ensure adequate stocks of materials and other items within the surgery

  • Order new stock supplies as necessary

  • Ensure computer/written records are accurately maintained and securely stored

  • Liaise with reception to ensure smooth patient communications and transfer of records/ Reception duties.

  • Other duties as necessary for the efficient operation of the practice (cover the duties and tasks of receptionist as required)


Personal Qualities :

Candidates must be punctual, friendly, keen to progress. Must be willing to work as part of a team and as an individual. Must also work hard to achieve the qualification they are working towards.



Skills Required :

  • A positive attitude to learn and develop new skills are always a must.

  • Excellent customer service skills are also vital as a career in Dental has constant interactions with the public on a day to day basis.



Future Prospects : There are a range of post registration courses available for dental nurses looking to further their education. They may include a range of higher education qualifications or other work-related education and training to support continuing profession development such as Certificate in Dental Sedation Nursing, Certificate in Oral Health Education etc.
