Job Description

As a science Manufacturing apprentice you will develop the skills and knowledge required to operate the systems and equipment that produce our pharmaceutical products. You will learn to root cause problems and identify areas for improvement in your work environment. You can expect to work both individually (when appropriately trained) and as part of a manufacturing team - taking responsibility for the quality, safety and accuracy of the work you undertake.

What this apprenticeship offers you
Our science manufacturing apprenticeship programme offers you the chance to study towards nationally recognised qualifications while gaining valuable, paid work experience. All manufacturing apprentices work towards an Advanced Apprenticeship in Manufacturing with the potential to go on to further study.

The science manufacturing apprenticeship lasts for three years and is offered at a number of sites across the UK.

What you'll be doing
During the apprenticeship you will study the theory of pharmaceutical production, first touch engineering and lean manufacturing as well as safety and risk management. You will complete a series of on-site job rotations, learning how to operate the different equipment that makes our pharmaceutical products – from chemical processing to tablet and syrup manufacturing or pharmaceutical packaging.

You will be aligned to one of our UK manufacturing sites, combining on-the-job learning with a programme of training and development. Your role might involve:

  • Identifying areas for improvement
  • Root causing problems
  • Supporting manufacturing processes
  • Ensuring quality, safety and accuracy

To be eligible for our manufacturing apprenticeship programme, you will need:

England: a minimum of five GCSEs or equivalent at grade C or above, including Maths, English Language (not literature) and a Science subject;

Scotland: a minimum of five Scottish credit/general standard grades or equivalent or above, including Maths, English and Science and one pass at a Scottish Higher Grade (or equivalent), preferably Maths or a Science subject.
