Job Description

Engineering apprenticeship

We are investing heavily in innovative engineering and manufacturing technology and apprentices are key to helping us deliver our vision.

Our multi-skilled Engineering apprenticeship programme is designed to create the engineers of the future. As an Engineering apprentice, you will have the opportunity to develop mechanical, electrical & instrumentation or control & automation skills.

What does an Engineering apprenticeship involve?

Our Engineering apprenticeship lasts up to four years and is offered at our manufacturing sites. In the first year, you’ll spend most of your time at college, studying theory elements of the apprenticeship and gaining some practical workshop experience. In subsequent years, you’ll continue one day a week at college while learning new skills in engineering teams across the site. Your rotations may include time in manufacturing, packaging, utilities and/or automation – depending on where you are based.

Your apprenticeship will combine on-the-job learning with a programme of training and development. Your role may involve:

  • Develop mechanical, electrical and instrumentation skills
  • Learn how to maintain production equipment
  • Carry out routine maintenance
  • Diagnose and resolve breakdowns
  • Help design, install and test new equipment

What will this apprenticeship offer me?

Our multi-skilled Engineering apprenticeship offers you the chance to study towards nationally recognised qualifications while gaining valuable, paid work experience. All engineering apprentices start on an Advanced apprenticeship, studying towards a level 3 NVQ, and work towards a Higher apprenticeship in Engineering - and if you show the qualities we are looking for you may be offered the opportunity to go on to study for an HND or degree in Engineering.
