Job Description

  • Join us as an apprentice and you will learn new skills and gain qualifications while working

  • At the end of your Apprenticeship, which will take a minimum of 12 months, you will gain a qualification worth 5 good GCSEs. You’ll become part of a crew, or a team, that works together to provide the best quick service, family restaurant experience – by far

  • If you have visited one of our restaurants before, you’ve probably got some idea of what’s involved in working here. But you might not realise the variety and scope of the role. Specific responsibilities that involve serving customers include working behind the counter on the till and being out in the dining areas looking after our customers' needs

  • As an apprentice, you will complete a mixture of on and off the job training which will start with you completing maths and English GCSE equivalents online, if you don’t already have these. Your time in the restaurant will be spent completing a National Vocational Qualification and Certificate in Hospitality and Catering

  • Throughout your time as an apprentice you will be supported by an assessor who will structure your training, assess your progress and generally support you through the programme. The McDonald’s Crew Apprenticeship Programme fulfils the requirements of “Raising the Participation Age” – a change in the law that means that young people in England and Wales must stay in Education or accredited work based training until the end of the school year in which they turn 17

Personal Qualities :

  • We are looking for what we would call at McDonald's, The Vital Ingredients. We see these as everyday things we can do to create a great experience for our customers and each other at work.

  • The Vital ingredients are:

  • VALUE & RESPECT...

  • ...those on both sides of the counter

  • We all know the importance of value and respect, but how does that translate into your restaurant, so that we're looking after each other and our customers?

  • MAKE IT SPECIAL...

  • …for every McDonald's customer

  • One of the most important questions we should ask ourselves is: what does it really take to make it special for our customers?

  • FRIENDLY AND FAST...

  • …a smile can make a day

  • Being friendly and being fast are both things that customers expect from us – but how can we combine the two effectively?

  • BE YOU...

  • …let your personality shine through

  • We are individuals and need to treat our customers as such, to ensure they have a great experience

  • ENJOY WHAT YOU DO...

  • …have fun!

  • Taking pride in the work we do shows our customers that our restaurants are enjoyable environments to be in

Skills Required :

  • Quite simply, you’ll be working in our fast moving, high energy environment and we’re looking for a genuine smile plus an ability to connect with customers and make them feel valued

  • Apprenticeships are challenging and there is an element of commitment expected from you. You will need to be prepared to commit to at least one year of training and further study and show a keenness to work and learn. To get a sought after Apprenticeship place, you’ll have to show you are dedicated, and aware of your responsibilities to both yourself and McDonald’s. You also need to be happy to work as part of a team and individually, and be able to use your own initiative

  • There is a minimum skill level requirement for the Crew Apprenticeship Programme and you will be asked to take an initial assessment during the recruitment process. This will assess your current skill level and aptitude for the learning required

Future Prospects : Once you have completed your Apprenticeship you remain a permanent employee of McDonald’s. The Apprenticeship scheme is a great chance to shine and show you’ve got skills and drive to progress. If you’ve got the can-do attitude and ambition, there’s no limit to how far you can go.
