Job Description

The summer is fast approaching and PGL are running a final training course for those who want to work as an Outdoor Activity Instructor this summer, on May 6th at our centre at Boreatton Park in Shropshire. All of our training courses after May 6th are full! SO, if you love nothing more than being active, meeting new people, inspiring others, and spending time in the great outdoors then apply NOW to join PGL as an Outdoor Activity Instructor.

PGL is the UK's market leading provider of activity holidays and study courses for young people with fantastic career development and training opportunities available to you right now.

You could be working at one of our 16 stunning activity centres based across the UK. Each centre has plenty to offer whether you are an old hat when it comes to outdoor adventures or if it's your first time in the great outdoors then there will be someone to show you the 'ropes'.

As an Activity Instructor, you'll introduce guests to a number of activities and deliver group taster sessions in our core activities, including orienteering, abseiling, climbing, fencing, motorsports, ropes challenge courses, initiative exercises and archery as well as helping to organise and participate in evening entertainments.

We look for energetic people who are willing to learn, with a commitment to customer service excellence to help to give our guests an experience of a lifetime. Any experience of volunteering or working with young people is a distinct advantage however no formal activity qualifications are required. However, you do need to be enthusiastic, willing to learn and have lots of energy!

If you bring this we will train you and give you the confidence and skills to be successful and excel in this role. This is a fantastic opportunity to share your love for sports, fun and the outdoors with our young guests.

This role is particularly great for anyone looking to start their career in the outdoor industry, searching for a career break or a rewarding gap year project. You'll pick up numerous transferable skills for your CV including group communication, confidence, resourcefulness and how to handle situations as they arise.

Training
All Instructors undergo a comprehensive training programme when they first join PGL. Your 10 day training course for this role will start on May 6th at our Boreatton Park centre in Shropshire. We will then provide transport to get you to your centre of work. Your aptitude and personal performance during this course, together with skills and experience given on your application, will determine whether your role will be made up mainly of instructing activities, or more pastoral duties, which may include a mix of instructing and organising evening entertainments.

As a first year Activity Instructor/Group Leader, you will be on our Foundation Programme and will be working towards a Level 2 Certificate in Introductory Work in the Outdoors.

Staff Package
We offer a competitive wage, paid monthly, meals and on-site accommodation provided, access to training and development opportunities and a FREE staff uniform that reflects your job role, location and contract length.

This is a residential job role with staff accommodation provided on centre.

Successful applicants are required to undergo an enhanced DBS disclosure, which PGL will pay for. You need to possess the legal right to live and work in the UK to be considered for employment with PGL. PGL is committed to the principles of equality and diversity and welcome applicants from all sectors of the community.
