| Our team of nine officers covers a wide range of development, delivery and review work on behalf of the Chief Executive and as such has links with all Council directorates and many of its partners. This includes: - A wide range performance management work, such as business planning, plan monitoring and review, performance data analysis, data quality checks - Support to the Council ‘s Scrutiny function, that exists to challenge the executive decision-making of the Council and to make recommendations for service improvement - Support to customers with complaints, compliments and suggestions - A variety of development projects linked to new ideas and processes - A major role in ensuring the Council is prepared to meet the challenge of the new Comprehensive Area Assessment What projects will I be involved in? A student taking up a placement within our team will be able to contribute to a range of work on the above subjects, according to experience, skills and career aspirations. Over the Summer period we have a range of exciting work to do, which includes: - Setting up new performance monitoring reports for our most senior managers and members - Engaging our partners in work to improve data quality - Looking at how we can provide meaningful performance information to the public through our website - Undertaking background research in preparation for Scrutiny reviews and Select Committees What degree subject would this placement suit? Those studying toward or part of a degree in Business studies, Politics, English, Economics, History, Social Sciences or Law. You may also find this beneficial/interesting if you are working toward a Science, Engineering or Psychology degree. What general work will I be involved in? - Answering telephone calls from partners and customers and dealing with general queries about the team's work - Searching for information from officers in other directorates or from other councils - Work planning for the team - Problem solving as part of the team - Undertaking small pieces of analytical work for senior officers and elected members, usually regarding the performance of council or partner services - Attending meetings and putting forward your ideas in discussions, workshops and single subject groups Will I be working in a team? Yes - there are nine permanent members of the team, and we also work closely with others in our directorate who cover policy, partnerships, communications and marketing.
