Job Description

PGL is the UK’s leading provider of residential activity experiences and educational study courses for young people. We’ve been giving young people the adventure of a lifetime since 1957 and now operate at 24 outdoor activity centres across the UK, France and Spain. Our beautiful centre, Little Canada, which is nestled in the trees on the banks of Wootton Creek on the Isle of Wight, has vacancies for Field Studies Instructors.

The centre provides a unique and spectacular location for taking the National Curriculum out of the classroom and into the outdoors and as a PGL Field Studies Instructor, you will have the opportunity to bring the natural world to life for our young guests and introduce them to new concepts of learning, using the outside world as your classroom.

Using knowledge from your Geology, Geography, Biology, Science, or other relevant degree, you will work with a group of up to 12 children or teenagers, using the centre and the surrounding locations to deliver field studies sessions.

This role is ideal for anyone considering a future in teaching or even current uni students looking for a suitable work placement for your year in industry. The scope for personal development is almost limitless as you'll learn and lead sessions for all ages of school groups in subjects ranging from geology and urban geography to alternative technologies whilst promoting citizenship and teamwork.

As a Field Studies Instructor, you'll benefit from a competitive wage, free uniform, access to great training opportunities, and a great entry on your CV.

Requirements:

  • A Geology, Geography, Biology, Science, or other relevant degree.
  • No formal teaching qualifications are required as we provide all the training you'll need to deliver our sessions. This position is the perfect step if you're looking to gain practical experience towards a career in teaching.
  • You'll need basic IT skills, a high level of initiative and commitment, boundless enthusiasm and a true desire to work with children of all ages.
  • Or if you don't possess a degree, but have similar experience of teaching Field Studies, we'd like to hear from you.
