Job Description

Oxford International Summer Jobs with UICUIC run residential language school programmes across the UK during the spring and summer holidays. Students visit in groups from all over the world to study English and learn about British culture. Alongside English language lessons, students take part in a varied activity programme of cultural visits, sports, games, workshops, competitions, discos and karaokes. The role of the Activity Leader is to ensure students are engaged in the activity programme and are taking part fully and safely.

Vacancies are available for Activity Leaders to work on the activity programme This is an excellent opportunity to gain valuable experience of working with young people.

Jobs with UIC are challenging yet rewarding; demanding but fun. We require our Activity Leaders to be enthusiastic, outgoing and consistently able to motivate and engage pupils.

An Activity Leader’s main duties and responsibilities are:

- Participate in, lead and supervise non-teaching (activity) sessions
- Take responsibility for excursions and cultural visits
- Organise and lead on-site activities, such as sports and discos etc.
- Encourage student participation by being positive and enthusiastic about the competition and activities they are involved in
- Make every effort to create a positive centre environment such that students are able to participate and enjoy their experience
- Attend staff meetings as necessary to ensure the smooth running of the centre
- Effectively manage students and their behaviour

All successful candidates must also attend a training weekend, either 15th-17th May in Doncaster, or 29th-31st May in Ashford. Full board and accommodation will be provided throughout the weekend, as well as £20 towards travel costs to the training centre.

The post holder’s responsibilities for safeguarding the welfare of the young students for whom they are responsible will be to adhere to our Child Protection Policy. This will include explaining any gaps in your work and education history, agreeing to a DBS Enhanced Disclosure and signing a Suitability to Work with Children Declaration where you will be asked to state any criminal convictions.

Qualifications

  • - Aged 18 or over
    - Native or native level English speaker (IELTS 8.0)
    - Ability to deliver engaging and appropriate workshops to learners aged 12 -17 of different ability levels
    - Ability and desire to work as part of a team with the aim of providing an excellent competition experience for all participating students and their group leaders
    - Flexibility and adaptability as, for example, the excursion programme may require changes on short notice
    - Good organisational skills as you will be expected to complete some course administration
    - Smart appearance and professional attitude
    - Excellent communication skills
    - An enthusiastic and personable individual, who is a positive and professional role model
