Job Description
Lodgeworthy Farm is currently looking for an Apprentice to join their Dairy farm. They have 280 milking cows and a Westfalia milking parlor. They also block calve (roughly 280 but are looking at 300). James Hale who is the owner of the farm is very keen to teach and support the apprentice. He would like to pass on his skills and experience and develop skills in his much loved trade. This is a fantastic opportunity to learn from a real professional who is passionate about his industry.
You will be involved in the following tasks:
• Milking
• Yard scrapping
• Animal welfare and health
• Bedding up & mucking out
• Livestoke movement
• Feeding
• General farmyard maintenance – fencing, ground maintenance etc
• Tractor driving.
Personal Qualities : Candidates must be able to work using their own initiative, be reliable, punctual, hardworking, dependable, and able to work alone without assistance when needed.
Skills Required : The farmer is looking for someone who can demonstrate good practical skills or knowledge of farming already. He is looking for someone who is keen to work in the dairy industry and willing to work the hours to learn.
Future Prospects : An employment opportunity may be available at the end of the apprenticeship but this is not guaranteed.
